Unable to change color back to standard after changing it once

Hi there, I‘m using the AnkiMobile Flashcards on my IPad (IPadOS 26.2) and I don‘t seem to be able to change my font color back to normal after changing it once.

Curiously, this only happens with the standard color (black for light mode and white for dark mode) and I am otherwise able to switch between any other colors to my hearts desire.

I‘m new to this application but I haven‘t run in this issue before and I don‘t know how to fix it.

Thanks for all your help!

I am able to reproduce this bug behavior on AnkiMobile 25.09 on iPhone.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. With Anki in dark mode, add a new Basic card and start editing the Front field:
  2. Type “aaa”. Note that the text font color is the default white, as expected.
  3. Use the paintbrush button to change the current font color to blue.
  4. Type “bbb”. Note that the text font color is now blue, as expected.
  5. Use the paintbrush button to change the current font color back to white.
  6. Type “ccc”. Note that the text font color is incorrectly still blue. You have reproduced the bug.
  7. Use the paintbrush button to change the current font color to green.
  8. Type "ddd’. Note that the text font color is green, as expected.
  9. Use the paintbrush button to change the current font color to white.
  10. Type “eee”. Note that the text font color is incorrectly still green. You have reproduced the bug again.
  11. Use the paintbrush button to change the current font color to orange.
  12. Type “fff”. Note that the text font color is orange, as expected.
  13. Use the paintbrush button to change the current font color to red.
  14. Type “ggg”. Note that the text font color is red, as expected.

So, it seems that the current font color cannot be changed back to the default white, when in dark mode. The same behavior also occurs where the current font color cannot be changed to the default black, when in light mode.

Workaround:

  1. When the bug occurs, type some text (which will be in the incorrect color).
  2. Select the text.
  3. Use the paintbrush button to change the current font color to the default (white in dark mode, black in light mode).
  4. Note that the selected text is now changed to the default color, as expected.
  5. Continue typing more text.
  6. Note that the newly-typed text is still in the default color, as expected. The current font color has been changed back to the default.

Thanks for bringing this over here! :+1:t4:

I can reproduce this as well, on iOS 16.7.12, so it’s not limited to the recent OS updates.
