TTS and Audio Speed on Mac and iOS

First of all, let me just say that I am SO EXCITED that we now have TTR capability built into Anki. This is a huge timesaver for me.

I am studying Japanese with Anki 2.1.30 on my Mac and syncing to the latest version of AnkiMobile on my iPhone. I am using TTS to create audio for the Japanese words in the Expression field using this code:

{{tts ja_JP voices=Apple_Otoya speed=0.5:Expression}}

The TTS works great, except that changing the speed variable does not seem to affect the audio on the Mac but it DOES change the audio speed on the iPhone. Is there something I can do (like a setting in Anki or MacOS) to get the speech speed working on my Mac? I have no idea if this is an Anki issue or a MacOS issue since it works as expected on iOS.

0.6 works for me - it seems macOS simply ignores speed requests at 0.5 or below

Wow, you’re right! Actually, on my Mac the magic cut-off seems to be 0.53. That’s so random!
