I got locked out of my computer and have been in contact with my program’s IT and they are in the process of figuring out how to get me back in but are not sure when this will happen as they are figuring out the new software. Is there a way to transfer my Anki decks to a different computer WITHOUT an AnkiWeb account (which I stupidly did not set up and sync before all this happened) and without access to the computer that it is saved on? Like with an external hard drive or something?
You can’t do it without access to the computer – because that’s the only place your data exists. But it doesn’t necessarily need to be bootable.
Can IT can get access to your Anki2
data folder, in one of these locations: Managing Files - Anki Manual ? If you copy that folder from that location on the old computer to that location on the new computer, and install Anki on the new computer (preferably starting out with the same version you were using before), you’ll be ready to go.
I’ll cross my fingers that you get to learn the gentlest possible version of the “didn’t sync with AnkiWeb or have any other external backup” lesson – and that you’ll only have to learn that once!
