Why are there strings in the AnkiDroid crowdin site with the above context? Should we bother translating them?
Can you link us to the string you’re asking about?
It’s model_editor_label but I’ve seen others.
They are Android components
Should we bother translating them?
Yes. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be on Crowdin
Sorry, but that link went over my head.
Surely Android doesn’t care whether we translate “card” as “carte” or “banana”? The context says that it “can’t be found in AnkiDroid directly” so why not keep it in English for example?
Unless they can be seen by the user somehow, I don’t see why keeping them in English isn’t enough.
I would interpret that as something that will be displayed in Android – but that is nevertheless relevant to the AnkiDroid user.
You’re obviously free to translate or not translate whichever strings you like, but you should assume that if it’s available to translate [and not specifically noted as “do not translate”], it will be visible to the user.
Have you read the link I sent? It is user readable, but not in the App direct UI.
All I saw was a bunch of “label” and “activity” and what not. It didn’t address how can someone actually see the strings in my original post.
