The “add reverse” field (found in the “Basic (optional reversed card” default note type) does not work in a new deck I have created: it does not create a reverse card.
This is a custom note type I have used for 10+ years in other decks without any problems.
To try to fix this, I tried creating a new custom note type based on the “Basic (optional reversed card)” default note type. The “add reverse” field works for new cards, but is does not work for cards that I move from the non-working note type to this new one.
I have examined the deck options and the card templates to see if there is a problem there, but I do not see anything.
Can you post an example of a note that is not creating a reverse card – along with the front template of the “Card 2” (or whatever your reverse card would be called)?
There isn’t a lot of mystery to that particular note type – it’s just a special application of Conditional Replacement (Card Generation - Anki Manual) – so there’s not much that can go wrong with it.
Well, I have discovered what I did wrong. And it is unbelievably simple. I forgot to fill the answer field on the back of my cards in this new deck.
Instead I had put the card answers in one of the additional fields on the back. That works fine front to back but there was no answer to populate a reverse card. ooops.
Thank you and kolay gelsin to both of you for taking the time to respond.
