Hi,
I made a deck for each class I have this semester. I have put tags on almost all of my cards so that I can practice by specific topics using the custom study feature. I uploaded these decks to ankiweb so that my classmates can have access to the cards.
One of my classmates said she can’t figure out how to study a specific topic using custom study. I checked and she’s using the desktop app. I checked her settings and couldn’t find anything weird. I deleted and redownloaded the decks for her, and turned on the presets toggle just in case that was the issue (I only understand the basic functions of Anki, so I’m not sure if that was relevant or not). I had a look through the ‘browse’ tab and none of the cards I added tags to have the tags. I’ve downloaded decks in the past and the tags came with them.
How can I save her and my other classmates the trouble of tagging cards themselves?
I asked reddit too, but nobody’s commented yet.
If you want to have a look at the decks yourself, search up “Ara CSEP” in the shared decks page. There are four decks there.

Tags don’t go on cards, they go on notes. Adding/Editing - Anki Manual .
Where are you and your classmate looking for the tags? Have you tried searching or using the sidebar in Browse?
There are four decks there.
Which of the 4 decks is she having the problem with?
[Ignore all that.]
I can see on AnkiWeb that none of those 4 decks were published with the tags intact, but I’m not sure how that’s possible since there tags are there in your original collection.

If you export the deck as an APKG (with media, without scheduling) – and import it (either into a new temporary profile, or on your classmate’s computer, after she deletes the existing deck – does it have tags then?
Hi, thanks so much for your reply! I made a test profile to try it out and it does in fact keep the tags. I’m guessing I’ve messed something up while sharing to AnkiWeb, then.
Edit: I started adding tags after I first uploaded the decks. Is there a chance that I’d need to re-share them? I thought syncing would do that but maybe I was wrong.
Edit 2: After some more reading I think I completely misunderstood the function of the sync button. I thought syncing would update the shared decks. I think rather than deal with the 24 hour delay before updates are published I’m going to make a group chat and share directly.
Yep, that’s likely the issue then. Contributing - Anki Manual
