I am pretty new to Anki but have been using it to study for med school. I am using a shared deck that I downloaded from our Google Drive and as of a few days ago got through all 20 decks within that shared deck. However, when I went in yesterday to do my review, many of the whole decks, and all of the cards therein, showed up as completely new rather than “due.” I re-synced my iPad and laptop a couple of times but that didn’t address the issue. I have tried Googling this and asking my classmates but I can’t find anyone who seems to have had this issue before.
Since this is a matter of 20 decks and several thousand cards to get through, I would really appreciate it if anyone had any advice on how to get back to where I was a few days ago, i.e., recover the “due” status of all of those cards! Thanks in advance!
Have you synced in a way that your previous progress was overridden (e.g. by being asked to download a sync state from another device where you added a field or something but never learned)?
No, I don’t think so - I don’t remember doing anything like that or if I did I was unaware of it.
I did just realise that my iPad is showing the correct status of all my decks whereas my desktop app is not. I’m going to try deleting the app from my laptop and redownloading it to see if that fixes the issue.
Please don’t (this is most often not the solution to Anki troubles).
When everything is correct on your iPad, why don’t you sync your iPad and then your desktop installation and see what happens? Make sure you sync them with the same account!
If you wish to force a full upload or download (for example, because you accidentally deleted a deck on one side and want to restore the deck rather than having its deletion synchronized), you can check the “On next sync, force changes in one direction” box in Tools>Preferences>Network, then sync as usual. (You’ll be given the option to choose which side you want to use.)
