Hey everyone! I’m having a weird issue with my Anki.
I have seen (and had in the past) the issue with not syncing because the library is too large.
But that isn’t exactly my issue today. Today my issue is that, that only occurs on my MacBook Pro. My iPhone syncs the entire library perfectly. But the laptop says the library is too large.
Any help figuring out what’s going on would be awesome, especially since it’s only happening on one device.
You’re getting that sync failure on your Mac because you’re using an updated version of the app that moved that check earlier in the syncing process. If you’re using an older version of the app on your phone, it doesn’t have that new code yet.
The error is still correct though – your collection is too big to be syncing with AnkiWeb.
If your collection size is over the AnkiWeb limit, you’ll now receive a message at the start of the sync, instead of the sync failing later.
Prior to that fix, sync was sometimes too generous in allowing incremental changes to oversized collections.
But you are definitely using more than your allocated space on the AnkiWeb server, so it’s not a matter of if syncing will fail, but when. [Murphy’s Law being what it is, you can imagine that it will probably happen when you need to download your collection to a device and can’t!]
Now that you know about the problem, you should take steps to fix it. See the thread I linked to.
Yea that makes sense thanks for the help, I don’t know what the other guy is on about, his comment did not even acknowledge what I was asking and just shifted the answer to something I didn’t even ask. Thanks for the info!
I even quoted you. The faqs clearly answer your question:
As the usage of Anki and AnkiWeb increases, at some point a pricing system may be introduced where basic, low-capacity accounts are free and heavier users can pay more for more space.
Maybe I should return the question you asked me?
I have to admit, it is a bit funny. But also frustrating.
Let’s have that be the end of the dispute about that. We can all see what each of you asked and answered. It was a useful link for that question, whether it solved everything or not. Being civil is always the policy here.
