Your collection file is too large to send to AnkiWeb. You can reduce its size by removing any unwanted decks (optionally exporting them first), and then using Check Database to shrink the file size down. (⁨485MB > 250MB⁩)

I have been having this problem on Mac for the last 3 months? I dont know what is wrong but it refuses to work even after reinstalling, removing decks and suspending things. Anki works perfectly fine on phone, tablet and PC but not on my mac and i find this highly annoying and an issue. Why is this occuring and is there any reason why it only affects macs? does a software update to fix this issue need to be implemented

As the error says, your collection size is above the allowed limit on your Mac. And the reason it’s only on Mac is probably because your devices aren’t in sync because you can only sync if you get the collection size down.

Your only option is to remove notes. Removing decks or suspending things won’t help.

Here’s a list of things to look at to get your collection size down under the limits – Constant Errors Uploading / Sync - #4 by Danika_Dakika .

how do i remove the notes? all my devices are synced so it doesn’t make sense that its a one platform issue

You can remove notes and decks by deleting them if they aren’t needed. See the post I linked to.

You might be seeing this issue more because of a change in the syncing feature in a newer version of the app. The limit hasn’t changed, but it’s less forgiving than it may have been for you before. It’s unlikely that all of your devices are fully synced if you’re seeing this error. But regardless of why you’re seeing it, the solution is the same.

so now my phone is having this problem. I have deleted everything from my anki web, and deleted everything from my mac. My PC has zero issue how can i fix this

It sounds like you updated to the newer version on your phone now too. If you’ve cleaned up your collection in desktop Anki, you can force that to one-way sync to your phone to clean it up too.

Go to Preferences > Syncing > “On next sync, force changes in one direction” – and then when you sync, choose upload to AnkiWeb. When you sync your phone, you’ll be prompted for the one-way sync, and you need to choose download from AnkiWeb. [This will overwrite the collection on your phone, so if you have any un-synced changes there, speak up, because you’ll need to do this a different way.]
