Safemode via shift key not working anymore

Issue

I tried to open Anki in safemode today by opening the app via

1. gnomes application overview,
2. gnome terminal (anki).

Holding Shift while launching Anki doesn’t open safemode though. Running anki --safemode explicitly does work, however.
