24.11 might be broken in linux

I upgraded to 24.11 on linux. When I went to use it, I noticed that the keyboard shortcut for ‘add’ (ctrl+enter) stopped working. I went ahead and reverted to 24.06.3 and it is once again working.

What linux are you using?

It works fine for me using debian oldstable and debian sid (with both, the qt5 and qt6 version of anki).

I’m on Arch using kernel 6.12.1

Everything else seemed to work. I couldn’t use the ctrl+enter shortcut to add cards. I reverted to version 24.06.3 and it started working again.

Thanks

Strange.
I tried with another keyboard as well, using the enter key above the shift key as well as the enter key on the number pad with any combination of my left and right control key, including tests with caps lock active and num lock active but it always works for my two debian machines.

Maybe you could try these using the latest version if you didn’t already:

  1. A shortcut key is not working - Anki FAQs
  2. Troubleshooting - Anki Manual
  3. If you hover over the add button, what shortcut do you see?

If 1 and 2 doesn’t help and 3 is just the normal “Control+Enter” then I’m out of ideas.

You could try anki on a fresh Arch install though (e.g. in a virtual machine) to see if it works there. If it does, then your config must somehow be the cause.

Okay, thanks. I’ll try 1 and 2 later. On 3, I see the correct shortcut showing “ctrl+enter” when I hover over the add button.

I looked at 1. I don’t think its this because it works on an older version. I’ll play around with 2 later today.

Thanks

I appreciate you taking the time to help me with this. I’ll look further into it. If it doesn’t work, it’s not big deal. The older version is working for me. Thank you for all your help.

Hi, I’m experiencing the same issue and was about to open a new thread.
After updating to 24.11, I wasn’t able to do ctrl+enter to add a new card anymore.
Yet, the shortcut is still shown as usual :

@ocpilot are you using kde too (see Ctrl+Enter doesn't work on KDE Plasma if Anki is ran through pip/aqt - #2 by sommerluk)?

That would explain why I have no issue. Both my machines are on Gnome (debian oldstable on gnome 3.38.5 and debian sid on Gnome 47).

I invite everyone to check my thread that sommerluk linked, as I just found out about some details, especially when it comes to Arch Linux – and I think checking what versions of Qt and PyQt Anki is reporting for people with this problem may help
