I redownloaded Anki and synced with AnkiWeb, which worked fine but now any flashcards that had images on them only show a small ‘image’ icon instead of the picture that was there, as seen below.

The image in your screenshot does not appear to have ever been uploaded to AnkiWeb, so it’s possible your media had not previously been completely synced. I’m afraid you’ll either need access to a device that still shows the images, or a copy of the shared deck if it was a shared deck you previously imported.
