Recovering progress on new laptop

My laptop was damaged and I am unable to sync my progress on my new laptop. I have been using the AnkiHub AnKing deck for Step1 and apparently only had an account with AnkiHub and not AnkiWeb? They said to reach out here to see if there was some way of recovering my progress. I take Step in 4 months and will lose my mind if I have to start over

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you never synced with AnkiWeb, it never had any of your data, so there is nothing on the servers to recover.

But before you give up, it’s worth looking everywhere

  • Are you certain you didn’t setup an AnkiWeb account at some point for some email address? I don’t know exactly how AnkiHub sync works, but I thought that it piggy-backs on AnkiWeb’s sync system in some say. Did you search all of your emails for anything from ankiweb.net?
  • How damaged is your old laptop? Unless the hard drive is erased, crushed, melted, etc., you might still be able to reach your data on it. Everything you need is stored in your Anki2 data folder – Managing Files - Anki Manual . That folder can be huge if you have a lot of media, so if you need to narrow it down to the absolutely essential – that’s the collection.anki2 file from your profile folder. Anything else is gravy.
  • Did you have important files like your Anki2 folder backed up to any cloud services or a local backup?
  • Have you ever exported your decks (with scheduling, hopefully :crossed_fingers:t4: ) to move between devices or share them with someone, perhaps by email?

(I’m assuming you don’t have another shadow version of your collection that you study on another device, because you didn’t mention it, but that would be another place to look.)
