Problems with the back image occlusion

I have the following problem with the Image Occlusion function: When I want to reveal the back of a card so that the occlusions disappear, only the following appears: “activate/deactivate occlusions”.

I have tried everything I could think of.

That’s the localization of “Toggle Masks.”

Are you using the default “Image Occlusion” note type, or a custom/edited version of that note type?

I am using the default.

What do you suppose I could do?

It seems to be broken, so replacing it with a new copy of the default seems like the most helpful path.

  1. Make sure your devices are in sync.

  2. Change the name of your current note type to add “broken” to it – Manage Note Types > Rename > "broken Image Occlusion".

  3. Make a new note type – Manage Note Types > Add > "Add: Image Occlusion" – and leave it named that.

  4. In the Browse window, search for note:"broken Image Occlusion" to find anything using that broken note type – select those cards/notes – Notes > Change Note Type – change them to use the newly created type, and make sure the fields (and cards) are mapped correctly.

  5. Get rid of the “broken” note type so you don’t use it again – Manage Note Types > Delete.

  6. When you sync, you’ll need to upload to AnkiWeb and on your other devices, download.

When I see “This is the first time NAME_ABC has posted,” I assume people don’t know all the nuances of Anki and haven’t done what the help says because they simply don’t read it.
I’d ask them to go to “Help > About Anki,” click “Copy Debug Info,” and paste it in.
It will contain very important information:
Anki 25.09.2 (3890e12c) (ao)
Python 3.13.5 Qt 6.9.1 PyQt 6.9.1
Platform: Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0
===Add-ons (active)===

This information already tells you which version you’re using on which operating system, and possibly any add-ons you’re using.
Errors are often related to “Windows-11,” so it should at least give you a rough idea. Of course, if everyone goes to

and does everything this way, then 90% of the time there’s no need to ask on the forum.
But in complex cases, you need to specify the specific entry type and other details, so the more screenshots you provide, the clearer it becomes.
Thanks!

Before we put the user through more troubleshooting, let’s see whether their note type is functioning. That’s the most likely reason for an issue like this.

[They included a good amount of details and a screenshot, so there’s no mystery here.]
