Prevent Add-Ons from being disabled remote-stealthily-surreptitiously … ;)

Yes, the addon AwesomeTTS … [unofficial] 814349176 says The latest compatible version is Anki 2.1.49

I’m on 2.1.65, and the addon has so far still been doing its job … until it was suddenly disabled; no update message, no warning, nothing … :frowning: (of course I’ve got backups)

Would be nice if this could be prevented …

BTW, any solution for my earlier post Built-in tts-voices (macOS): multi-language strategy; random voices? from Mar 26 ?

I need ad-hoc RANDOM voices from the pool of ALL! locally installed voices for a specific language. The above addon offers exactly that, that’s why I’m still using it.

I’m sorry for disabling the add-on for Anki 2.1.65 all of a sudden.

There were a few recent reports about the add-on not working on Anki 2.1.65 Qt6, I wasn’t able to fix it in a short amount of time and disabling it, until it’s fixed someday, seemed to be a good idea at the time.

I didn’t consider that the add-on might be still working fine with Qt5 and someone might be using it on Anki 2.1.65 Qt5.

I’m again sorry, I added a note on the add-on’s page how to enable it manually, just in case.

Go to Tools > Add-ons, select AwesomeTTS … (requires Anki <= 2.1.64), click View Files, remove or edit ‘meta.json’ (by removing the minus sign from “max_point_version”), go to the parent folder, rename the ‘814349176’ folder to ‘awesometts’ and restart Anki.

Thanks for replying …

… I wasn’t aware this is even possible …

a few recent reports about the add-on not working

For me also, it is true that the addon no longer works 100%; for instance, trying to open the Settings dialogue will produce an error message …

But since all of my Random!! Groups are already set up, that’s not a problem; otherwise the addon works fine for me:

it reads out the question with a DIFFERENT, RANDOM!! voice each time the card comes up for review.

I think I will continue to use your great addon until Anki’s own {{tts …}} command can choose a RANDOM voice from among all locally installed voices.

{{tts-voices:}} shows that Anki ‘knows’ they are all installed …
