Overlay asking for a choice to be made, but no choices offered

AnkiDroid version: 25.09.2 (3890e12c)

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Android version: 9

Problem:
When I tap Sync, AnkiDroid shows a dialog titled “Select collection to keep”, but the area where the choices should appear is completely blank. Only the title and the ? help button are visible.

What I have already tried:

Logged out and back into AnkiWeb.
Changed AnkiWeb password and confirmed PC Anki syncs successfully.
Rebuilt database.
Deleted AnkiDroid app data completely.
Started AnkiDroid from scratch and selected “Sync from AnkiWeb”.
Problem still occurs.

Additional information:

PC Anki syncs successfully with AnkiWeb.
After resetting AnkiDroid and syncing from AnkiWeb, my decks are still present.
I can open decks, view cards, reveal answers, and study normally.
The collection appears intact and usable.
The blank dialog persists even after clearing app data.
The ? button in the dialog works and opens the AnkiDroid help page about sync conflicts.
The problem appears to affect only the “Select collection to keep” dialog.
The sync icon shows the warning/exclamation-mark version of the sync symbol.

Examples of decks visible and working:

German - Personal Errors
ChatGPT-SpeakingSentences
Mini Gespräch

Question:
Has anyone seen a blank “Select collection to keep” dialog on Android 9 or a Samsung Galaxy Note 8? Is there a way to force the collection choice when the dialog contents do not render?

I moved this to AnkiDroid so the right devs are more likely to see it.

That’s not an AnkiDroid version number, and there are a few versions of AnkiDroid that go with that desktop Anki version. Go to Settings > About – click “Copy debug info” and paste that here. The devs will need all of that information.

Maybe. You could try Settings > Sync > One-way sync and see if you get a different dialog box.

You could also try a different Theme, and see if it’s just that a color isn’t being rendered correctly – Settings > Appearance > Theme.

I can’t tell from your sequence of steps why the one-way sync is happening. It sounds like with an empty collection you’re able to initially download your collection, but after that every sync requires you to choose a direction. That’s unusual.
