This morning, automatically the FSRS helper addon was updated. I am using Version 23.12.1 (1a1d4d54), FSRS helper of 2024-09-25. I use both new card limits and review card limits in my desks. What happens today is that it doesn’t add any new cards. When I manually increase the new card limit with the custom study feature, it adds review cards instead.
I just updated Anki to the latest version 24.06.3 (for some reason I was not automatically informed about new updates). But the problem remains.
The example deck has 0 new, 0 learning, 20 to review, and 10307 available new cards. When I increase the new card limit by 2 cards using “custom study”, afterwards it has 0 new, 0 learning, 22 to review. I expected 2 new, 0 learning, 20 to review. Also, no new cards from the queue appear in the beginning, it should be 4, which is the new cards limit.
It sounds like you have a backlog of overdue cards. If you’re setting an extremely low daily Review limit, that’s not much of a surprise. When you have a significant backlog, that’s not a good time to be introducing more cards to your studying.
Update notifications are pushed out rarely, and only for specific versions/reasons. You won’t ordinarily be notified when a new version releases.
I found the problem. I had switched off the “new cards ignore review limit” in one of my presets, and the option was switched off globally on all of my presets, presumably because this is a global flag in disguise. So it is a user interface misbehaviour, but now I know what to do at least.
It’s not very small or very hidden. You can find that out by hovering to see what the global-setting icon means, or by opening the tooltip for that setting.
