Hi everyone,
I’ve been having a strange problem with my Anki collection. My ‘New card’ total increases every day after the new day starts, even though I haven’t added or imported any new notes.
For example, before bed my total “new cards” count might be 8518, but when I open Anki the next morning it’s jumped to something like 8791. This happens consistently after Anki’s “next day” rollover — not while I’m actively studying or syncing.
Here’s what I’ve checked so far:
-
I don’t have any filtered decks currently.
-
I haven’t imported or created any new cards.
-
I ran Tools → Check Database (no issues found).
-
I disabled add-ons one by one and there was no change.
-
I verified that my deck limits (“new cards/day”) haven’t changed.
-
The increase seems to happen exactly when the “next day” starts — I go to bed with Anki open, and when I open it the next morning, the count is higher.
It’s very demotivating because the total “new” count doesn’t reflect my real progress (got exams in 2 weeks) — I can’t tell how many new cards I’ve actually studied.
System info:
-
Anki version: [insert your version number here, e.g. 24.06 or 24.08]
-
Scheduler: FSRS
-
Platform: Windows
-
“Next day starts at”: 4:00 AM
-
No active filtered decks
-
Database check reports no issues
Has anyone else had their new card total increase automatically overnight like this? Any ideas on how to fix or at least stop the counter from changing unexpectedly would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
