Network error when syncing on macOS

Hi everyone,

I’m unable to sync Anki and consistently get the following error message:

A network error occurred.
Details: error sending request for url ()

I’ve already tried the following:

  • Using my iPhone hotspot instead of my regular Wi-Fi
  • VPN disabled
  • Proxy disabled
  • iCloud Private Relay disabled
  • Restarted both Anki and my Mac

AnkiWeb works fine in my browser, and syncing on my iPhone also works without any issues. The problem only occurs on my Mac.

My setup:

  • macOS Sequoia 15.7.7
  • Anki 25.09.4 (d52ca669)
  • Python 3.13.5

Please help, I have exams coming up soon

Thx!!

You might also want to try rebooting your modem/router to see if that might make a difference.

You said that you disabled your VPN, proxy, and iCloud Private Relay. Do you normally use a VPN, proxy, and iCloud Proxy Relay, and did you turn them off because you were trying to troubleshoot your networking issue? Or, do you not normally use these things and were just letting us know they were disabled?

Do you live in a geographic region or country that is known to have internet blocking issues?

If your computer is a laptop, please try taking it somewhere with public wifi and try using that different network connection.

Did this problem start just recently? Were you able to use Anki previously, but then this error started to occur? Or, is this the first time you’ve used Anki and you’ve never been able to sync without seeing the error?
