My cards got buried automatically in bulk

Yesterday i had changed my retention rate and rescheduled my cards on change, which led to many cards being rescheduled, like it usually does.

To give an idea, i have around 10k matured cards and my daily review load is around 500-600. I do around 75-100 new cards daily and did so today as well.

So after rescheduling, I noticed that around 220 cards had been buried out of nowhere, now these cards were normally due at random dates ranging from 20/11/25 all the way to 2026. I panicked as that wouldve made my pending cards for the day over 700 for today and thus i unburied all those cards manually.

Today i had my usual 500 cards due when i observed the same issue yet again and it has again put around 220 or so cards on bury.

Now i must say that i have both Bury new siblings and Bury review siblings ON as well as i opened up a filtered deck yesterday to complete my pending reviews over the course of this week. I turned these Bury settings off still it doesnt really change anything.

However i had checked and found that the cards which did get buried were in fact cloze 2/3 siblings and Sketchy Pepper cards (I dont know what they are called, they constitute of a single card with multiple cards within). Nevertheless, i didnt bury them. Kindly offer a solution..

Did you check all the presets? Look at subdecks that might have a different preset assigned to them.

There’s nothing about rescheduling that would bury cards.

  • Had you already been studying earlier in the day?
  • Do you have any add-ons that bury cards under certain conditions?

Disabling burying doesn’t unbury any cards that are already buried. It just keeps the automatic sibling-bury action from happening the next time you study a card. Studying - Anki Manual

If you want those cards unburied, you can do that manually, or wait for the next day when Anki will unbury them automatically.

I have the FSRS Scheduler but i didnt use it and it hasnt happened before.

I will try manually unburying it and disabling bury.

FSRS doesn’t bury cards on its own, and I don’t believe the FSRS Helper add-on (if that’s what you mean?) has any burying functionality.

I’m not sure what the mystery is, here. You say you had sibling bury on, which means whenever you review a card, all its siblings are buried. So if you review 500 cards in a day, and many of them have siblings, it is completely normal to have hundreds of cards auto-buried by the end of the review session. I always end the day with >100 buried cards.

All buried cards are automatically unburied at the start of the next day, so you generally don’t need to manually unbury them.

I’m not sure what you mean by “over 700” pending cards for the day. For cards with due dates in the future, burying has basically no effect. They will be unburied tomorrow and will still be due in the future.

Sibling burying normally only matters if two siblings are scheduled on the same day. One of them will be buried, and you will review it the following day when it becomes automatically unburied.

UPDATE : I disabled the bury option in every preset ; problem was that i had bury enabled in many of the subdeck’s presets which didn’t notice before and it didn’t bury the cards today. Thank you everyone !

Thanks !
