When using the anking deck, I have to go through all new cards first before any reviews start, even if the subdeck is 1000+ cards long. When I press my space bar, nothing moves to the learning tab. For instance, it’ll say 200 0 0 (new, learn, review) even if I’ve been going through a bunch of new cards. I tried to change deck settings by increasing review limit, turning on the “mix with reviews” setting under new cards, but it still doesn’t work. Does anyone know how to fix this? It would be greatly appreciated because it is really hard for me to learn like this as I’m unable to go through all the subdeck cards in one go.
There are a few things that are involved there –
- For the deck you click to study – Deck Options > Display Order – don’t set New cards to come before Review cards. Deck Options - Anki Manual
- Don’t set your daily New cards to be unlimited (9999).
- “it’ll say 200 0 0” – If you don’t have any Review cards yet, there’s nothing for the New cards to mix with.
If you just started using AnKing and accepted their default settings, they also changed your Learn Ahead Limit to 0. You can change that back to the default of 20 min in Preferences. Preferences - Anki Manual

- If you don’t want to do 200 new cards, change that number.
- You can adjust when new cards are shown (before, intermixed, or after, reviews) in deck settings, which it sounds like you’ve grasped. You’ll want to make sure you’re changing this setting for all decks, and/or presets, as you may have multiple in your collection. If you change ‘preset A’ it won’t have any effect on a deck that uses ‘preset B’, for instance.
- If your deck says 200 - 0 - 0 there aren’t any review cards to be seen in that deck, sort of by definition.
The cards will show up in the ‘learning’ tab based on the interval represented on the button you pressed (e.g. 10 minutes = will show up in 10 minutes, etc.).
