Motivational/Gamifying Features

First post here so I hope I don’t break any rules, please let me know if I do. This not a technical issue but more of a feature discussion.

I am curious if there’s ever been a discussion around gamification features to help motivate learners. I know there are stats but personally I don’t view the stats every day, and they aren’t always straightforward to quickly look at.

Obviously/as expected, Anki pretty much exclusively shows me cards I don’t know or don’t know very well, and rarely shows me something that is really easy, since that would be spaced further out. This sometimes causes me to subconsciously want to avoid using Anki since it feels like a relentless wave of things I don’t know, or makes me feel like I’m on a treadmill never making progress (lack of a dopamine hit maybe). To illustrate my point, a simple example feature that would mitigate this would be a counter of “total cards mastered in this deck” somewhere on the main card screen, which would give a sense of progress.

Hopefully this isn’t too trivial of a topic, I think it’s relevant since total hours logged in Anki is also a big part of actually learning.

There are several add-ons available (for the Desktop/Laptop version) which offer a gamification feature. Perhaps you could see if any one of them fits your requirement.

Some basic searching for gamification – here in the Forums, in the r/Anki subreddit, even on Google – will give you all sorts of ideas about what is available in that area.
