So I’m having a problem where I want to merge my Repro/Endo subdeck with the parent AnKing Step Deck. The first screenshot shows how many cards I have New/Learn/Due for each deck. When I merge the decks, the number of New/Learn/Due cards in the parent deck doesn’t change (2nd screenshot). It’s as if all I did was just delete my subdeck. Does anyone know why this is and how to fix it?
When you say “merge” – I assume you’re using Cards > Change Deck to move the cards from the subdeck to the parent-deck?
The Decks list doesn’t show you all cards that exist – it only shows you the cards that are available for study today, and limited by the daily limits for each deck. But the counters for a parent-deck already include all cards in its subdecks (up to the limits for the parent-deck). So moving the cards wouldn’t change those counters.
The 9482 due cards you see is the 3236 cards from the subdeck plus 6246 cards in the parent-deck. And the 517 New cards includes the 2363 New cards from the subdeck, but obviously the parent-deck has a lower daily New card limit.

This makes sense, the only thing is that both decks use the same settings, with new card limit set at 9999. So how come the parent deck says only 517 new cards but the subdeckc says 2363?
Ah, okay – if they have the same daily limits – then I suspect it’s because 9482 + 517 = 9999.
New cards are part of your overall study limit for the day. You have too many due Review cards, so that limits how much room there is to introduce New cards. Deck Options - Anki Manual
Okay thank you! So just to confirm, if I merge the two decks, I won’t lose my progress on the subdeck cards?
As I asked above, if that’s what you mean by “merge” – correct. All of your progress/review history is attached to a specific card. When a card moves to a different deck, all of its progress moves with it.
The only exception I can think of is that how many cards you’ve studied today has already counted against daily limits for the decks you studied them in – that form of “progress” won’t shift to a different deck. But it’s already counted against the parent deck too, so that shouldn’t be an issue for you.
