Can't Increase the review limit

I used anki to memorize words, and after completing the 50 learning limit, I chose to continue learning. The first 2 times the upper limit worked successfully, but when I reached 237 new learning and review, there was no reaction to raising the review limit.

I found the reason, because I just modified the parent deck and needed to sync to the child deck. It’s a bit of counter-intuitive

The message in the middle of your screen tells you that you won’t be able to increase the limit from here because there are no cards available, but that there are cards in the subdecks –

There’s a better way to do this though – in your deck Options, you can change the daily New card limit for “Today Only” to whatever you want to increase it to. You’ll still need to do that on the right deck – whatever deck currently has that 50-card limit – but it should be more intuitive for you there.

Thanks for your kind reply. So, you mean I should adjust not only the limit of the main deck but also those of its subdecks?

Yesterday, I tried modifying both, and it actually worked. However, I’m curious about the underlying mechanism here. What’s the relationship between the limit set for the main deck and those for each subdeck?

Previously, I set both the main deck and all its subdecks to a limit of 50 (which I’ve already completed). Back then, the main deck showed 0 cards waiting to be learned. But when I changed the limit to 100, the number of pending cards suddenly soared to 150. This result really confused me.

Which limits you need to adjust depends on how you have the limits set already. Parent-deck limits respect subdeck limits. The Anki v3 scheduler - Anki FAQs

When you do that, and click on the parent-deck to study, you’ll get no more than 50 New cards, with no more than 50 from any one of the subdecks. See that FAQ I posted above for more examples.

I suspect you didn’t change the limit to 100 in Options. It sounds like you used Custom Study (as you were in your post above) to increase the limit by 100.

I’m sure I’ve changed the new card limit in the “OnlyToday” options. When I set the limit to 150, the main deck’s new card count jumped to 300. In that time,I assumed this happened because the main deck has 3 subdecks, so I thought the limit might multiply across them. But when I tested this just now, the result was still different from what I expected.

As shown in the figure, I adjust the number (每日新卡片上限:Daily new card limit)at that time.

If as you suggested, when I raised the main deck’s new card limit to 100 but didn’t apply this change to its subdecks, I should still have had 50 new cards left to learn—after all, all those subdecks were set to a 50-card limit, so there ought to have been enough cards available. Yet I only started seeing new cards for learning once I applied the same setting to all subdecks. (Strangely enough, though, everything seems to be functioning normally today.)
