I make a deck, all Basic cards (without reverse), with the elements. I made one set of notes that had the atomic number on the front and the element name on the back, and another set with the element name on the front and the number on the back.
Now I want to “merge” these, so that instead of two separate notes with one card each, there would be one note with two Basic+Reversed cards generated, and I need to keep the history I’ve already generated with the old cards. Import the history from the old cards to the corresponding new cards. (I think I wrote everything right but you can see what I am meaning)
Can please let me know how to do this? Thank you everyone.
Not directly, but there is a way. You’ll do it in a few steps.
Make sure you have a fresh manual backup of your collection so you can get back if anything goes wrong. File > Create Backup.
Get your new note type set up how you want it - the right fields, the right card templates, etc.
For your 1st set of notes – Change Note Type (Browsing - Anki Manual) to your new note type. You’ll map the fields how you want and map the single card to Card 1, which will take all of your existing review history along with it.
2.5. Make another manual backup now if you like.
Use an add-on to transfer the review history from the cards in your 2nd set of notes to Card 2 of your newly created basic+reversed notes.
There are several add-ons that can do this. I’ve most recently used Transfer scheduling data from one card to another and it worked well for me for a small project. I don’t think anyone has cracked the nut of how to do this in bulk, so it is a one-by-one transfer. But there’s only like 120-ish elements (I think they’ve added a few since the last time I studied it!), so it shouldn’t take too long.
