Good day, I have been using Anki for a while now, maybe 4 years. I had a version in my phone and in my computer. I have not used it in 6 months, i noticed that the app was somehow deleted from my phone so i had to buy and download AnkiWeb again and can’t seem to recover any of my decks I have build over the years, please help restore my decks, it’s years of work.
As you can see here in AnkiWeb account removal, if you have not used the account data for six months, the account may be deleted.
AnkiWeb is free; it is the desktop version. If you had to pay for something, then you have presumably bought AnkiMobile for an Apple iOS device.
You should still have the collection on the disk of your computer, though. That is presuming that you did synchronise the decks that you had on your mobile device with your desktop computer.
Managing Files and your Collection will tell you where to look for those files on your computer’s hard drive.
The decks were not synchronised intentionally since the desktop was for work stuff and the app on the phone was for personal things, the desktop version was recent and did not have much. However the Ankiapp (I think it was Ankidroid) had years of data. I would like to recover that.
If it was AnkiDroid, then you could not have paid for it. If you paid for it, it would have been AnkiMobile for iOS.
If it was AnkiDroid, then you may be able to restore from a back-up. See AnkiDroid Automatic Backups for instructions.
I was using Ankidroid and yes I did not pay for it. I used it on my android phone and somewhere in 2023 I changed to an iPhone and I was able to continue using Ankidroid for a long time until it disappeared from my iPhone a few months ago. So this morning I wanted to get back to using flash cards again so I went to Apple Store, in Apple Store only Anki Mobile was available for me to buy so I bought it this morning. Now I need to bring back all the decks that were in Ankidroid to the newly purchased AnkiMobile.
AnkiDroid is an Android app, you can’t use it on iPhone. If you’ve been using something other than Anki Mobile on iPhone, it might have been AnkiApp, or one of the other knockoffs.
Possible that it was AnkiApp, is there a way of recovering my data from it
If by recovering you mean converting the data into the proper Anki, you are probably looking for this tool. Anything else is not related to this forum, as AnkiApp is not a part of the Anki, it’s just using the same word in the name to confuse people (please read the info linked in my previous comment).
You’ve gotten some great answers here, but I just want to clarify a few details for you. [All of this only applies to data in authentic versions of Anki – not any copycat apps – see: Anki knockoffs - Anki FAQs .]

You have an existing AnkiWeb account (created in 2017) using the same email address you used to post here. [If you think you have another AnkiWeb account you want me to look at, please send that email address to us via DM to

and I can take a look at that.] -
The data was deleted from your AnkiWeb account earlier this year, after it was inactive for 6+ months. That generally means that all server-side backups are deleted. In your account, one backup retained, but I can’t imagine it’s something you’d want, because it only has 8 notes/cards and no review history.

If you stopped syncing your devices with AnkiWeb, the best place to recover the most recent version of your collection is from the devices where you were actually using Anki.
- If you used Anki on a Windows/macOS/Linux computer, your collection is probably still there, regardless of whether the app is still installed.
- If you used AnkiDroid (on Android) or AnkiMobile (on iOS), and you still have the app installed, you still have your collection there.
- For AnkiDroid, if you were still using an old enough version of the app (pre-version 2.16, released in 2023), even if you uninstalled the app, your collection might still be there.
