The FSRS is active and the intervals are very very long for example a card that learns for the first time the button good will transfer it 15 days later, how can I optimise the system as I want to study
-
When you enabled FSRS, did you optimize your parameters?
-
How long has it been since you last re-optimized your parameters? – You can do that monthly.
-
When you optimize, does FSRS count a decent number of reviews (at least a few thousand)? [You can click optimize now to get that figure and then close without saving.]
-
What are your parameters – as text, please?

How do your retention results [Stats > Retention] compare to your Desired Retention [DR]?
Hello dear,
I hope you are doing well, and thank you for your help.
Regarding my problem, I’d like to clarify that I have recently shifted to this deck from another one that was the same. At the beginning of my study, I put a lot of effort into catching up on the previously studied cards. This resulted in learning a large number of cards in a short time, and I chose Easy for most of them.
I think the FSRS system interpreted this as having a very good memory and started increasing the intervals even for new cards. In other words, this confused the system and led to unrealistic results.
What I want now is to study normally with reasonable intervals and return to the normal state, but I’m not sure how to optimize my settings to achieve this.
You can find my deck setting and statistics in the attached file
Thank you again

If you think your current parameters are skewed in some way, you can –
- [A] Move those cards that you studied differently into a separate deck using a separate Options preset, so that they won’t be included in optimization.
- [B] Suspend those cards that you studied differently (if you aren’t studying them anymore), so that they won’t be included in optimization.
- [C] Reset your parameters to the defaults for now, continue studying, and in a month, when it’s time for re-optimization, FSRS will put more emphasis on your more recent reviews – which might solve the problem for you.
Your attachment didn’t come through (try pasting screenshots instead of creating a PDF) – and it doesn’t seem like you answered the rest of the questions I asked.
Hello
Yes, I optimize my parameters daily and the deck setting and statistics are shown in the attachment photos.
If I reset my parameters what happens to the cards that I have already studied?
That pretty much answers #1, 2, and 5.
You can stop doing that. “Monthly” is plenty.
For #3 – Based on your Stats, I’ll assume FSRS is counting at least a few thousand reviews. But I don’t know whether those are the ones you want FSRS to be considering or not. [See new questions below.]
For #4 – Since I don’t have your FSRS parameters as text, I can only look them over. At a glance, nothing looks obviously wrong – but they might be a bit skewed toward the material being easier for you. And yes, after a first-Good grade, it would be normal for those parameters to schedule a card with a 10-14d interval. [I assume the 15d interval you saw was with a different set of parameters, since you’re optimizing so often.]
Nothing. They will remain scheduled exactly as they are. The next time you study them, they will be scheduled using those new/different/reset parameters, based on your honest and accurate grade.
New questions:
-
You’re showing us the deck Options for the “Default” preset, used by 1400+ decks. Is it safe to assume that’s your only preset? Are these 1400+ decks just the old and new decks you’ve mentioned (and their subdecks), or does it include a bunch of other decks you’re studying?
-
You’re showing us the Stats for the “current” deck. Is that a parent deck that contains all 1400+ subdecks? Or is that just the new deck (and its subdecks)?
Updating suggestions:
Based on your parameters being not too far off-kilter, I probably wouldn’t recommend resetting your parameters to defaults anymore ([C] above). I think you’ll be better off sticking with optimized parameters, which might change after doing [A] or [B] and re-optimizing. I’d like to know if either of those seem viable to you. I can also suggest some ways to preview how that might change your parameters, but I’d need to know more about your deck setup first (questions at #6). [Your collection isn’t synced to AnkiWeb, at least not with this account, so I can’t see it for myself through our support portal.]
I can see that you’re struggling with retention, but I wonder if that has more to do with your huge workloads right now, and with the backlog you’re digging out of – than with anything we could fix in your scheduling.
