I’m a little confused how I can set up Anki to study kanji for the JLPT N4 test. I’ve downloaded Anki on my Mac laptop. Now I’m not sure what I need to do. Do I need to install kanji packs/decks? Can I also sync my study to my iPhone? If I understand correctly, Ankiweb is available on the iPhone, but for about $25?
Thank you..
You can either download premade decks or make them yourself. A good place to start looking is ankiweb’s shared decks. Alternatively, if you have a spreadsheet with the list you need to learn, it can be easily imported into Anki to automatically convert it to a set of cards. Or, you can always just add cards manually as you go through the material (although for something as prominent as JLPT, which already has multiple widespread decks and lists, it probably does not worth the effort).
Yes
Anki’s iPhone app is called AnkiMobile, and it does cost $25 (a one-time payment). AnkiWeb is the website version of Anki, it is accessible from any platform (including iPhones) for free.
AnkiMobile is more functional, especially in terms of editing the cards, but AnkiWeb can be more than enough to start learning. Especially if you can use the desktop version to edit cards (which is more convenient than a phone app for complex operations anyway) and are fine with only using your phone when you have internet access.
