It's not possible to cancel sync if the network is gone/slow

Would it be possible to add option to cancel sync if the network is not available (for example mobile coverage gone)? I have enabled “sync on startup” which is very convenient but this sometimes breaks in the above situation and there is no way to cancel the sync and one has to wait till the timeout…

Usually, when this happens to me I just force quit the application. I am not sure if that’s recommended or encouraged though.

I’m not sure if that would help as I have “synchronise automatically” which would trigger the sync after next run…

I just disabled that option but then I have to remember to trigger sync manually…

Oh, yea I didn’t think of that I have “synchronize automatically on profile load” off.

What happens if you try to click the x button? Does it stop the download? I don’t think it does because I probably would have already tried that when Anki is syncing slowly for me.

As a workaround, until someone else responds with a better solution, you can quit Anki when you see that syncing is taking some time and then hold SHIFT when you start Anki so that automatic syncing is skipped. This also disables add-ons, however.

I don’t think I’ve ever run into this. When I start AnkiDroid disconnected, it just doesn’t try to auto-sync.

Would that work on AnkiDroid though?

Uhm… we are in AnkiDroid section and there is no “x” there :frowning:

The issue mostly happens under “almost-no-internet” that goes into “no-internet” (i.e. riding on a train). So the OS reports that there is still connection but it’s barely usable (or even not) and then a second puff, it’s gone…

And given I’m riding more trains and would love to do more repetitions there (taking advantage of the lack of internet and awesome sync of the Anki) I have to remember to do the sync right after start of the trip and not when other apps/pages don’t load and my mind goes into “no internet, let’s do offline anki repetitions”

Experienced the exact same. And yeah, would describe it the way you did.

HAHA. My bad, I should have read it more carefully.
