AnkiDroid: Automatic background sync/update

I don’t necessarily remember to practice my Anki deck, and it’s helpful if a notification pops up. However, this doesn’t happen automatically; e.g. if I review 10 cards today, I mark them “Good”, and they gets scheduled for tomorrow, and I don’t do anything else - no notification would pop up on the next day. The Android widget will show up as “blue, no cards to review”. However, if I open AnkiDroid, it’ll realize “oh yeah, you have 10 cards to review”, and even pop up a notification - which doesn’t help, because it happens as I literally just opened the app.

Notably, this doesn’t even require a network sync to realize - all of this would work the exact same way in airplane mode, AnkiDroid has all the necessary information locally.

I would like to see options for doing the following periodically in the background:

  1. Just updating, no network sync - but updating the widget if present, checking if there are cards to review, and popping up a notification if appropriate (and if that setting is already enabled).
  2. Full network sync periodically, if the user would like that
