I just updated from 25.07.3 → 25.07.4 on my MacBook via the new update menu. It seems to have worked (kind of) because when I have a look at the “About” section, it says that I have 25.07.4 installed but when I have a look at my “Programs” folder and I right-click the Anki app and then I click on “Info”, it tells me that I have 25.07.3 installed.
This also causes “MacUpdater” (an app that I use to check if there are any updates available for any of my apps) to get confused because it still tells me that I have 25.07.3 installed.
Would appreciate any help / info here. Thanks in advance!
I believe that things would be less confusing if the launcher is called Anki Launcher in the Installed apps section in Windows (and equivalent on Mac) and has a version scheme different from that used by Anki itself (e.g. SemVer).
Similarly, the launcher should be named as anki-launcher in package managers such as WinGet and HomeBrew so that users know that the package manager is updating only the launcher, not the app itself.
There’s no equivalent on macOS - the program name is the name of the .app folder. And we still want users to be able to start Anki by clicking on “Anki”, not “Anki Launcher”.
