Anki updater bug

My anki is on 25.05b1, the “check for updates” recognizes that 25.05 is newer but, and the whole install process seems to go well, but when I open anki it’s still on the beta version and when I re-check for updates it still reports 25.05 to me to update to.

I know I can completely remove it and re-install so I don’t need any help updating, just wanted to make a report for future beta-versions as the updater seems to break somewhere somehow.

On another note, there isn’t an option to check for beta-versions anywhere in settings like there was in the CMD-based updater, seems like an oversight that should be added.

The “launcher” will no longer be used with any future releases and can’t be used to install 26.05.

To install the 26.05 released version (or later), you need to download it from the main site – Anki - powerful, intelligent flashcards . See also: An important note about updating to 26.05 .

For now, you can assume that the beta-release process will go back to what it was before – an announcement in Anki > Beta Testing and a separate download.

(I assume you mean 26.05 here.)

Are you installing Anki as an administrator? There’s a bug making the installer not recognize existing installations in that case. Will be fixed in the next release.

I made it only check for beta releases when you’re on a beta build for simplicity. We can add a preference option if there’s enough demand.

Oh yup mb! I don’t think I went out of my way to install it as an admin no, maybe windows did it automatically or I don’t remember. It’s good that it checks for beta versions when you are on a beta version, but when you aren’t you have to actively check GitHub and download from there which is a bit of a unnecessary hassle imo
