Is there any way to enforce a pause of a defined length of time between X number of reviewed or learned cards?

So I’ve come across the evidence on how powerful “wakeful resting” (as the literature calls it) is for encouraging consolidation of memory, and it is quite shocking how clear the evidence is that literally doing nothing after learning dramatically improves memory, and that it does it not (as some follow-up studies have tested) because it provides opportunities for free recall or whatever, but simply because it promotes consolidation to happen biologically within the brain.

There’s a good overview on BBC here.

I want to find a way to automate this into my routine. So for example I might review ten cards and then have the screen go blank and essentially meditate for one minute, or have the same happen between the display of each new learning card.

I would prefer not to arbitrarily junk up my review stats, which is just one reason that simply self-imposing the rule would be far from optimal.

Likely you’d have to create an add-on to impose something like this.

Funnily enough I came across :coffee:Break Timer - After 10 cards, take a 3 minute break (Created by Shigeඞ) - AnkiWeb while looking for something entirely different, and it reminded me of your post

Haha, if there’s a feature you want odds are Shigeyuki has you covered.

Amazing, thank you! Just so everyone knows: it unfocuses the window entirely and puts a countdown at the center of your screen, and allows customization of {any length of time} after {any number of cards}, then can recenter on the text entry (for type the answer cards) or not.
