Intervals are different on IOS and PC

Hello, so a couple days ago i bought ankimobile on IOS and i noticed that the intervals of time with the pc version are kind of different. On the pc version, when a new card seems easy, it would finally give it an interval of 4-5 days, but with the ios version, all the card will finally hace an interval of 1 day. Is there any reason of that? do i need to change anything?

I have FSRS active on both devices, in the image below you can see my ios parameters

I suspect the reason is that you’re using different versions of Anki – with different versions of FSRS – on your devices. You’ve shown us the parameters on iOS – what are the parameters on your PC?

these are the parameters on pc.

You can see that they are different.

It also look like they are the default parameters, and now I see that you’re using the defaults on iOS as well. That could account even for more of the difference than simply using different versions of FSRS. I’d recommend optimizing them to fit your own studying – and you can come back to re-optimize monthly.

So you have 2 paths forward –

  • Keep using the versions that you’re using. They are completely compatible, and when you study on each device it will use the version of FSRS it has. You should optimize your parameters though – first on PC, then sync, then on iOS, then sync. Each will keep the parameters that fit its FSRS version.

  • Update your PC to the latest version, which you can get from the main site. [That means using the new launcher/installer process, which works fine for most users, but has some stumbling blocks for others.] After you do that, pick one device to optimize your parameters on, then sync. Both devices will have the same version of FSRS and the same parameters.

i did the exact thing you told me, on pc, and now these are the intervals for a recent card:

at least its synchronized on both devices, these are the parameters:

Those parameters show red-flags for you having mis-used Hard in the past – using it for cards you actually got wrong. Any chance of that?

i’ve been told since the beginning that i shoukd never use hard so i dont think thats the problem

That’s probably not the most accurate advice – Studying - Anki Manual – but if that’s been your practice –

  • Is your material incredibly easy?
  • Do you not have very much review history in this Options preset?
  • Do you not have the correct decks/subdecks assigned to this Options preset?

Oh, i got confused with Hard and Again, i was refering to the last one, sorry.

Im currently studying japanese so its kinda hard

And i dont have very much review history, since the deck is kinda new, and im only using this preset to this specific deck

If someone told you to not use Again, that’s horrible advice. How does your Stats > Answer Buttons graph look?

this is how it looks like

You’ve basically told FSRS that you’ve never given an incorrect answer. (“Again”) FSRS is adjusting your intervals accordingly.

“Hey FSRS, I’ve done over 3,000 reviews, and I’ve never gotten a single question wrong! Some of the time, I know the answer without any problem. (“Good”) The rest of the time, although it might be more difficult, I still eventually get the answer right. (“Hard”)”

FSRS: “Wow! You really know this material well! You’ve never gotten a question wrong! I’m adjusting your intervals to 3+ years because it’s clear (from what you’ve told me) that you really don’t need to study this subject that much. You already know it!”

Edit: Toned down wording to be more neutral.

That’s definitely, definitely misuse of Hard! [Please continue scolding whoever told you not to use Again – until they promise never to give that advice to anyone else.]

There’s a path out of this too. You need to use the FSRS Helper add-on, “Remedy Hard Misuse” – which will change all of those Hard grades to Again grades. After you do that, check Answer Buttons again to see that it worked. Then you should re-optimize and show us your parameters.

I’m probably going to suggest you reschedule as well, but let’s see what your parameters are first.

After doing the “Remedy Hard Misuse” and re-optimizing, this is how the answer buttons look like:

And these are the parameters:

How can i reschedule btw?

P.D: just curious, so imagine i have to review a card from like a month ago and i dont remember its contents, should i use Again anyway?

Oh good! Those parameters look much more typical for difficult material.

You can “Reschedule all cards” using the same add-on. You might want to look at your Stats > Future Due before/after to compare.

Rescheduling isn’t essential, and it will likely increase your workload (because your material is harder than the default parameters assumed), and/or result in a backlog of overdue cards. If you don’t like the result after the reschedule – Edit > Undo will put things back.

You can come back to re-optimize monthly, and you may want to get through another month of normal grading behavior and re-optimize before you consider rescheduling (or changing your Desired Retention).

I’m not sure I understand the question. In that situation you would definitely want to grade the card Again – you need to see it again and learn it again. That’s what the button is for. See my link above so you understand when to use each button.
