Incorrect keyboard shortcut for "paste and match style" on Mac

This is a bug report for Anki Desktop - my understanding is that this is the correct place to post it but feel free to correct me.

When adding a card, CMD-V pastes including formatting, e.g. if you paste from a web page it comes out in the same font as the web page. After some web searching and experimentation, I discovered that the shortcut for pasting the content only is shift-CMD-V.

However, the MacOS system shortcut for “paste and match style”, used in all other apps, is option-CMD-V, not shift-CMD-V.

I think it’s fair to say using the wrong shortcut here should be considered a bug. It makes it impossible for users to discover, and in addition shift-CMD-V is a rather awkward combinations of keys to press on a MacBook Pro keyboard, requiring you to either stretch your left hand out in an awkward way or move your right hand across to do it with two hands.

option is adjacent to CMD, I don’t think that difference of a singular key is impacting a lot unless you anyways are in a non-optimal typing position.

Upon a quick search, this seems to be wrong (what apps are you specifically referring to?), the shortcut would be Cmd + Opt + Shift + V
Perhaps this could help you out?

actually I guess you’re right about this, I made a mistake transcribing my muscle memory. It seems like it’s Cmd + Opt + Shift + V in some apps and Cmd + Shift + V in others, so perhaps it’s not a bug after all.

There is a missing feature though, in that in every other app, “paste and match style” is an entry in the edit menu and has its keyboard shortcut displayed next to it, like this:

In Anki the edit menu looks like this

so it’s not obvious that there even is a “paste and match style” feature or what the shortcut is.

By the way, I’d appreciate information about the correct place to post bug reports. This post has been moved to “help”, which seems unlikely to be the right place. If I were a developer I very much doubt the “help” channel is where I would go to find tickets to work on.

Apparently we move it to help most of the time, see this: Can we add "Bug reports" to the help topic please?

I believe that there isn’t a “Paste” and a “Paste and Match Style” button available on the Edit menu because there isn’t really a place where it could be pasted. There could be several places where to paste that, so they probably didn’t offer that option.
I suggested that add-on considering you can customise most shortcuts the way you want. The default Qt shortcut for “Paste and Match Style” most likely is Cmd + Shift + V and is inherited unless the shortcut is specifically mentioned. (Not a 100% sure, but I think this is how it works)

The text will be pasted wherever the cursor is currently located, the same as any other app.
