Command-v for paste into macOS file picker doesn't work

In the card editor, when picking an audio file to attach to the card (using F3), when I try to search for files in the macOS file picker that pops up, I cannot paste text into the Search box using Command-v. See red circle in attached image. Strangely, when I right click the field and click Paste, I can paste text. Also, when I use other apps like Firefox that open file pickers, I can paste using Command-v.

I am using Anki from Homebrew.

debug info:

Anki 25.02.6 (6381f184)
Python 3.9.18 Qt 6.6.2 PyQt 6.6.1
Platform: macOS-15.5-arm64-arm-64bit

Try everything from Troubleshooting - Anki Manual. I suspect it’s because of an add-on (e.g. maybe it’s taking over that shortcut).

If that doesn’t work, try updating Anki.

I’ve disabled all addons and restarted Anki in safe mode. The problem still occurs. I am using Anki 25.02.6, which is the latest release as of the time of my post. For good measure, I’ve checked the database, restarted the machine, tried the OpenGL and Software video drivers instead of the default Metal and reset window sizes.

There’s a new beta you can try:

I was sure I saw this question even before, and turns out I’m right. Someone else reported a similar issue so it’s maybe something broken on Anki’s side: Paste shortcut does not work in Anki on Mac. It works in all other programs, but not in Anki. This started happening after the update

edit: damn it’s right there in related topics at the bottom of the screen, i keep forgetting this feature exists.

Still doesn’t work for 25.06b1 (using the built dmg). I also tried building it from main (ce6497c), which also doesn’t work.

Edit: I suspect it’s a Qt problem. The same behavior happens for other apps using Qt (qBittorrent and digiKam), but not Firefox or a native app like the PDF reader Skim.

Okay, then it’s an issue they’ll have to handle.

Should I report a bug to Anki? Or just Qt?

You’ve just reported it (Anki bugs are handled here). If you’re sure it’s a Qt bug, you can report it to them too. IIRC the process is you reproduce the same bug on some of their sample apps.
