If you criticize AnkiDroid, the developers will block you

Why did you say this? Dae is about to commit a murder here :frowning:

I think there is a moral obligation to develop or discuss a bit one day every month, however if they are busy they can be absent.

He’s already made it clear that he will evade if he gets banned anywhere.
Just set up some SMS verification for registering, will help with the bots too. No need for wasted space.

It is 1:20am in the morning where I am currently, I am slightly drunk (because a good friend successfully defended his doctorate today) and I just pulled out my laptop to login to the Anki Forums just for you, @johncaiwa. People who know me in real life know that I am the absolutely very last person to pass any judgment (honestly, sometimes it may be even a bit too late).
However, if I were in your position (which very fortunately, I am not), I would be deeply embarrassed by my attitude.
I want to vocally support @dae’s position. There is no high horse here.

As a side note, I recommend you reading some Immanuel Kant. His categorical imperative might provide you some insight into why your behaviour in this forum is so frowned upon.
If the original formulation

Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law.

proves to be too deep for your understanding, I want to refer you to the popular version:

Treat others as you would like others to treat you.

Have a great day!
I sincerely wish others treat you with the same kindness and empathy you offer to them.

I get those vibes from people here :joy:

Patience and politeness are virtues. If someone urges me to fix/implement something in my todo list, I would also lose the motivation to do it.

By the way, I’m also a contributor of Anki (mainly focus on FSRS) and I haven’t engaged in real learning using Anki for a long time. It may be a common case for most maintainers.

Sometime I feel tired in my open-source project. I may quit it when I lose all motivation. Rudeness just speeds it up.

Here is a blog post (in Chinese) written by a developer who abandoned his open-source project, and I have the same feeling as well.

" I may quit it when I lose all motivation."

I agree, “Patience and politeness are virtues.”

You do know that those services only update their phone numbers like every year or so? But thank you for confirming that you have nothing better to do with your time.

Another alternative would be to move the forums to discord. This dude’s cringe rant aside, I think it is worth bringing some life into the Anki part of the discord. Right now it’s a lot of Ankidroid.
And yeah, discord has phone verification too. All of those free phone numbers are already exhausted, too.

Comments in the issue tracker though. David goes through them because they are important most of the time. There is enough space available on the internet for criticism. Issue tracker shouldn’t be the place for that.

I don’t have a phone, so I use them whenever some app asks me for a phone number

There are people who do not wish to use Discord because of privacy issues. There might be people who can not use it because it is banned by their government.

Discord is also really really bad if you care about information accessibility. The messages can get deleted if the account gets deleted. You cannot archive important pages. You can not reference discord messages when building wikis. The knowledge shared isn’t available through search engines. It’s a really bad system.

It doesn’t.

You can.

You can. Depends on the server’s privacy settings though I think.

You can just choose to persist important pieces of information into relevant wiki’s.

I think this thread has run its course, and I’m tired of the flagged posts from both sides, so I’m closing the thread. Please don’t flag any more posts here, as I’d rather everyone’s behaviour here remains open and on the record.

I’m not going to escalate things by reaching for the ban hammer today @johncaiwa, but before you create further posts, I implore you to take a step back and reflect on what you’re hoping to accomplish by posting on this forum, and how your tone and attitude may be actively sabotaging those goals.
