How to pause Anki while traveling

Hello, I am a user who uses anki in Korea. Although I learned English in school, my English skills are not good enough, so I used a translator. I hope you understand.

I study Anki every day. However, when I go on a trip, I want to stop Anki for a while. It is really frustrating to see the piled up Anki after a trip.

So I have two questions. 1. Is there a way to completely pause Anki? For example, if I go on a trip on Monday and come back on Friday, is there a way to study Anki on Friday that is exactly the same as it was on Monday? 2. If 1 is not possible, if I study as much Anki as I can on Monday with the advanced study function of fsrs, will that reduce the amount of Anki I have to deal with on Friday?

  1. There is not. The same way that your memory continues to decay for those 5 days, time needs to continue passing for your Anki cards.

  2. Using FSRS Helper functionality is a great way to move as many of your cards out of that week as possible. You mentioned Advance – but you don’t get to pick which days those cards come from. Have you looked at Easy Days, which you can set for those specific dates? You’re unlikely to be able to get them completely clear, but the fewer cards that are scheduled then, the smaller the backlog when you return.

I think that using postpone / easy days would be better, but if you don’t want to do any Anki I think you could just limit the amount of reviews per day in the deck options to something manageable, and slowly work through the backlog.

Thank you for your kind reply. I tried to use the easy days feature as you mentioned, but to use it, I need to enable the load balance feature, which will have a big impact on my existing anki schedule. Is there any other way?

You’re right, Load Balance is necessary for the Easy Days feature. And yes, it will have an impact, but (1) it shouldn’t be anything to be concerned about, and (2) it will be considerably smaller than the impact of clearing out these travel days.

If you have particular concerns about Load Balance, can you say what they are? I have been using it since the add-on came out, and I’ve been nothing but delighted with the results.
