Help overwrite default "type answer in" deck type - now gone

Hey, i believe i accidently changed the default card type “type answer in” to the basic card type [just show back].
Now logically all my cards where I wanted to type in my answers have been switched to “normal type” although they are still categorized as “type in answer”.
(under Notes > change Note type); also the popup with “do you really want to make these changes” popped up when i accidently changed the type form “type in answer” to basic (still labeled as “type in answer”)

So my question: how can I get back the “type answer in” type?

Thanks in advance!

It’s not clear from the description, whether you accidentally changed the note type on some notes, or edited the original note type itself (in the former case it shouldn’t have kept the original name).

If it’s the first, you can simply change it back using the same Noteschange Note type option you’ve already found. If it’s the second, you’ve likely deleted the type: part in the {{Back}} replacement in the card templates. You can put it back by clicking Cards and replacing {{Back}} with {{type:Back}} on both the front and back templates there.
As a fallback option, you can always create a clean new type-in answer card type by going to ToolsManage Note Types in the main menu, then Add → select Add: Basic (type in the answer) from the list and click Ok (give it a distinct name). Then change the note type of all required notes to the newly created one using the change Note Type method.

thank you so much for this fast response!!

The fallback option worked for me.
Just out of curiosity: “replacing {{Back}} with {{type:Back}}” just produced a blank back page where i couldn’t see anything. And yes it was “back” instead of “type:Back”

for it to display anything on the back, you need to have {{type:Back}} on the front template as well. Then the back should display the comparison between what you’ve typed on the front during a review (can be an empty answer) and the actual contents of the Back field.
