Email Change & Syncing

Hello all,

I’ve been using Anki for 5+ years, and despite my forum/internet searches, I’m still at a loss regarding my problem.

Recently, I created a new email address for a more professional appearance and to make it easy for new people in my network and employers to know who I am.

I created a new AnkiWeb account using the new email address, but noticed that even after changing the primary alias on my computer from the old email to the new and redownloading Anki, it seems my Anki app account and the Anki Web account are completely different profiles.

Is there a way to change the email associated with my Anki software so that I can sync between the two, or am I missing something?

Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Usually the easier way to switch to a new email address is just to change the email address on your existing account. If you want to do that instead –

  • Delete the new account you created.
  • Change the email address on your original account to your new email address.
  • Then update the address in the app as I describe below.

Changing the alias on your computer and redownloading the app aren’t necessary. All you need to do to sync with a different AnkiWeb account is change the account you’re syncing with in Anki – go to Preferences > Syncing.

You’ll need to make that change on all of your synced devices.
