Duplicate card from same note (same card type)

It was a while ago since I noticed that my review flow had become abnormally repetitive, but only today did I find there are card of the same content in a single deck, with the same note id and same card type.

There was a similar topic mentioning the same problem but the replies weren’t quite helpful…

How do I mass delete duplicate cards with same template, same card type and same data?

I have a deck with many duplicate cards. The duplicate cards all have the same template, the same card type and the same data (I double checked the html) in the same fields. The deck uses a custom template and it’s notes should only generate one card type.These duplicates aren’t detected by ‘Tools → Detect Duplicate’. I’m not exactly sure how this happened. I made the deck by using a custom Python script that generated a apkg file from a json file using the genanki Python module. It look awhile…

This might not be exactly a bug since I also messed it around with syncthing and other unintentional tools/addons, but I wonder how could I remove these duplicate cards?

Sounds similar to what another user reported recently. Have you tried Tools > Check Database?

Anki creates extra cards

I am unsure what’s causing it, but sometimes I notice that a note has too many cards associated with it. As an example I have a note that has 5 card types. I would expect that adding a new entry would result in 5 cards for that note. However, for some reason I am noticing many more cards than should be there.
