Desktop app won't sync

I recently downloaded the Windows version to my new notebook, and when I tried to log in/sync, I got an error that says, A network error occured. Error details: Error sending request. No matter what I do, even if I delete and redownload, I cannot sign into the desktop application. Has anyone found a fix for this?

Something that worked for me was going to “Tools > Preferences > Syncing” and selecting “On next sync, force changes in one direction”. That sorted it out. I forced it to download from web.
