Card types prioritisation

Hello, I’ve been using Anki only for four months and it has been a game changer. I’ve customized note types and card types to meet my specific needs when learning Finnish. There is one thing I would love to see in Anki and I think it would benefit a lot of learners: cards type prioritisation.

For example I have a note type for verbs. In that note type I have card types that ask me about:

  1. meaning
  2. inflections
  3. imperative mode
  4. past participle
  5. which cases it governs

Now when I study, sometimes I get a card that asks me about which cases a certain verb governs before I have even learnt the meaning of the verb itself.

It would be amazing to have a feature allowing me to prioritise certain note types over others – it will show me the cases question only after I’ve mastered the meaning of the word at least to a certain level. I hope it’s worth considering.

Thanks!

The deck creator arranges the notes so they can be studied gradually. The card types are also designed to progress from simple to complex. That’s what the initial settings are for—that’s their purpose.
If there are a lot of cards, they create subdecks, say, by topic, so that the reader understands that they don’t need to move on to another without thoroughly mastering one topic. I like this more because it’s clear that you’ve mastered one topic (one section) and immediately see significant progress. I might not review the old topics anymore, let’s say I don’t have time, but I actively focus on the new ones, since you might have an exam on the new ones, while the old ones can wait for more free time.

Sometimes subdecks are divided into card types, and you decide when to study a different card type and to what extent.

If you want your cards introduced in order of their card-types, that is the default behavior. And there are ways to separate them even further than that – to different days, or to delay introduction of later card types. Start by looking at the Display Order Options you have selected for the parent deck you click to study. Deck Options - Anki Manual
