It happens on multiple networks, including mobile data
Firewall and antivirus are not blocking Anki
Using a new AnkiWeb account, syncing works fine on the same devices!!!
From this, it seems the issue is specific to my original account, not my devices or network.
Is there a way to reset my account’s sync state? I saw some people in the forum having their connections issues resolved recently but mine wasn’t (by the way I’m from Argentina, in case it’s relevant).
A few users in Argentina have been having issues syncing. One on Reddit found that a VPN would get around it. Another gave up trying things and created a different account.
A few days ago, some servers were impacted by a certificate expiration – Sync error: error sending request for url () - #35 by dae – but that was resolved. The reason only some accounts were impacted is that different accounts are on different servers, and since 2 of your have found that a newly created account is able to sync, that comes to mind. It’s possible there’s another server that didn’t get the fix, or something else hasn’t propagated worldwide yet.
[User _otp_ from Reddit – so we can dig into this further, it would be helpful to have your account information. When you respond here, use the same email address you used for AnkiWeb syncing, or send us your AnkiWeb email address privately, by DM to @ moderators.]
Fastest solutions
1. Switch to a new AnkiWeb account.
If you sync multiple devices and they aren’t currently in sync – remember that the first sync will be a one-way sync, so take care to preserve your out-of-sync collection so you can merge it after that. Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual
If you want to use the same email address, you need to change your current account to a different email address first to free that up.
[I’d encourage you to run Check Media and clean up your unused media on your local device before syncing to the new account.]
If that works, and you’re happy with the new account, you can remove the old account on its AnkiWeb account page. You should check all of your devices to make sure they are syncing to the new account, and clear any browser cookies/passwords for the old account.
2. Use/stop using a VPN. I don’t have any specific advice to give you about that, but it seems to work in some cases – indicating it’s an internet routing issue more than an account/server issue.
I moved your post here because that other thread was related to a widespread outage.
I think you’re either experiencing something similar to what these folks in Argentina are – so see above – or it’s another server issue in Russia – so you should also look at:
Click the “Change bypass preset” button (Сменить пресет обхода блокировок).
Go to the “Settings” tab (Настройки).
Set “Strategy launch method” to “Direct launch (recommended)” (Прямой запуск).
Switch to the “Strategies” tab (Стратегии).
Select “WARP” from the list on the left.
Select the “YTDisBystro 3.4 v2 (1)” strategy.
Click “Select” (Выбрать) and restart the bypass if needed.
If this specific strategy doesn’t work for you, try other presets using the “trial and error” method. Different ISPs may require different bypass strategies.
Unfortunately, this method didn’t work for me. I think it might be due to different provider settings, but adding the link to the list didn’t solve the sync issue.
