Can add-on branch supported Anki version rangers overlap?

Silly question, but. Suppose I am updating an add-on. It currently works with all versions, but I the new version only supports Anki 2.1.49+. Do I have to do

  • Branch 1: Anki 2.1.0 to -48
  • Branch 2: Anki 2.1.49 to 54

Or is this also okay?

  • Branch 1: Anki 2.1.0 to 54
  • Branch 2: Anki 2.1.49 to 54

Will Anki offer to update to Branch 2 if Branch 1 is still compatible?
