Bug report Anki 25.09 on iOS 27 pasting

Hi,

I am writing to report a bug for Anki 25.09 on iOS 27.0.

When pasting text from the new keyboard suggestion introduced in iOS 27, Japanese Text input breaks on this field, repeating the pasted string a second time and afterwards not typing kana any more. This does not happen when pasting the normal way, holding down on the field and selecting paste, and does not happen in text fields of other apps. I have uploaded a video of the behavior here:

(Remove some spaces, I couldn’t upload a video here and the forum doesn’t allow links)

It’s not a big issue, but if you have time it would be great if you could take a look!

I was able to reproduce this bug, with Anki 25.09, iOS 27.0.1, with the Japanese-Romaji keyboard installed, with the device (iPhone 13) language set to English.

When the bug occurs, the Japanese-Romaji keyboard seems to stop working. Instead, the keyboard incorrectly behaves like a regular English keyboard.

The bug seems to occur:

  • After pasting using the “Paste from [app]” button in the keyboard.
  • Even when pasting from other apps, for example “Paste from Notes” or “Paste from Safari”.

It seems the bug does not occur:

  • If you switch to a different field after the paste and then start typing.
  • If you paste using the long-press pop-up menu.
  • In other apps, for example Notes.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. With the Japanese-Romaji keyboard enabled, open the Anki Add screen.
  2. Click on a text input field.
  3. Type “gi” in the keyboard. Note that this inserts “ぎ” in the field, as expected.
  4. Copy the “ぎ” character from the field.
  5. Click on a different text input field.
  6. Click on the “Paste from Anki” button in the keyboard area to paste the “ぎ” character. Note that this inserts “ぎ” in the field, as expected.
  7. Type “go” in the keyboard.
  8. Note that this inserts “go” and another copy of “ぎ” in the field. Both of these are unexpected behaviors. The field contains “ぎgo ぎ”.
  9. Keep typing “gi” and “go” in the keyboard. Note that these unexpectedly type “gi” and “go” in the text field.
  10. The Japanese-Romaji keyboard seems to no longer work, for any field on the Add screen.
  11. To get out of the bug state, exit the Add screen.

Alternate 1 Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Select and copy some text from another app. For example, in the Safari app copy the text “the”.
  2. With the Japanese-Romaji keyboard enabled, open the Anki Add screen.
  3. Click on a text input field.
  4. Click on the “Paste from Safari” button in the keyboard area to paste “the”. Note that this inserts “the” text in the field, as expected.
  5. Type “gi” in the keyboard.
  6. Note that this inserts “gi” and another copy of “the” in the field. Both of these are unexpected behaviors. The field contains “thegithe”.
