Basic question about best practices in learning new cards

Hi!

Let’s say you have a card that you are trying to learn, and it is completely brand new to you. How do you learn it? I mean, do you study it outside of Anki first, or do you just try and memorize it as part of the typical daily review process? Thanks!!
