Is there a way to have a basic card and cloze card combined? it is annoying to keep switching between them. Every time i just do a normal front/back answer with the cloze note-type, i get an error message when i pull up that card since it doesn’t have a cloze deletion on it. and then i don’t even have the option to do cloze on a basic card.
What exactly are you trying to do? Perhaps some other notetype could help you with this.
You could just use the Cloze type to create “basic”-cards like this:
The Text field contains:
Why is this a question?
{{c1::This is the answer}}
I’m trying to have a basic card that can also have cloze deletions on it without switching between the two notetypes. So like i can either have a front/back card or i can have cloze on that card if i wanted
i don’t like how doing this formats some of my cards
Maybe you can tell us more about how you want it formatted? It’s probably achievable with card templates.
For example. If I am making basic cards (front/back) and then want a cloze notetype (with cloze deletions), I find it a bit tedious to switch between the card type constantly, as this adds to the amount of time I spend making my cards. If there was the ability to have a basic card that i could add a cloze deletion on, i would love it. Basic card with cloze capabilities if i wanted them
Yes, you can do it like I showed above.
You write the question and cloze out the answer.
And if you want “normal” cloze cards, then you just do it like you always would, e.g.
If FSRS is enabled, {{c1::true retention}} is expected to be close to the {{c2::desired retention}}.
Or make it into a “basic” question:
If FSRS is enabled, what is expected to happen with the true retention?
{{c1::It is expected get close to desired retention}}
I don’t want to always leave it on cloze, as i find that it adds time to card making when i am consistently using cloze to block out my answer. I also find that it alters some of my images when i do this. I would prefer if a basic card could also function as a cloze note type
It shouldn’t be doing that and we could probably help to solve this.
I don’t think that’s supported (only cloze cards can actually cloze). Though in theory there could maybe be a workaround by using a second field in the close (for the answer) and only show it conditionally if it’s non-empty using card templates.
But the easier way would be to wait until someone else confirms that it’s not possible or until someone finds a solution that’s working for you (the template redesign might not work great without bigger changes).
for a while it was letting me haha but i guess it was a bug ??
In my view it is a failing in Anki that cloze cards are not able to be generated from a normal note type, ie. I think that there should be no need for a specific cloze note type per se.
As an example, when learning a language, in this example Spanish, you may want a note that has something like ‘aprender a’ = ‘to learn how to’ with the usual Spanish → English, and English → Spanish cards. But you may also want to have a cloze card as well to reinforce the specific preposition ‘a’ that is used in this case. With the principal of a single source of information that should be able to be generated from the same note as the normal cards.
This is only a quick example off the top of me head, but there are other similar use cases. You can work around it by having multiple notes, but that obviously is more work to create and maintain than a single source of information.
You could try my basic template at ikkz Template
For your usecase, you only need to turn on the “Enable Cloze” in settings. Then the question
field support cloze like {{content}}
, and doesn’t complain when no cloze in it.
