Auto Syncing between iPhone and Mac?

Hi - apologies in advance if this has been asked before, I had a read over the manual etc. but didn’t seem to find the answer

I use Anki on my iPhone + my Mac. I tend to review on my iPhone and I create new cards on my Mac. Whilst syncing between the two devices works fine (pressing the sync button on both devices which then shows my completed reviews on my Mac), I was wondering whether there is a way to automatically sync the two. I am a bit scared that I might do the syncs in the wrong order and so the laptop sync will override the completed phone reviews. It would be great if the last changes on the last device updated etc. although I understand that could be problematic for some people too.

I’d appreciate any help/advice on how to make this a bit more intuitive for a newbie.

Thank you in advance.

Most syncs are actually synchronizing your devices – not just overwriting one with the other. [When overwriting needs to happen, it will be called a “one-way” sync, and you’ll be given full warning it’s about to happen.]

But the simplest solution to that fear is to sync when you open the app, AND sync when you close/leave the app, on every device, every time. Then you’ll never have changes on more than one device at a time, and you’ll have nothing to worry about.

On your Mac, you should leave automatic syncing enabled, so that Anki can help you with that – Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual . On your iPhone, it will be up to you to remember to sync when you open and sync when you leave. Unfortunately, iOS doesn’t give Anki a way to manage that for you.

Thank you so much! I have now implemented a good habit of syncing upon opening/before closing Anki. I really appreciate your support!
