I did my last Anki session (160 new cards and all reviews) on my MacBook yesterday evening and synced.
This morning, I did all my reviews on my phone, but I accidentally used the outdated version of the deck — the one that didn’t include yesterday’s progress from the MacBook.
Now I’m stuck:
→ If I sync my phone first, today’s reviews get lost. It looks like I haven’t done anything today.
->If I sync my MacBook first, I get the reviews from today, but all the stuff I did yesterday (160 new cards + reviews) disappears.
So whichever version I sync, the other one’s work is overwritten. I realize now that Anki can’t merge changes from two unsynced sessions — it just keeps the version that was uploaded to AnkiWeb and overwrites the other.
how do I solve this?? Is there a clean way maybe with creating some kind of extra deck?
thanks a lot
That’s not what happens when you do an ordinary sync through AnkiWeb. Unless you are doing a “one-way” sync, nothing will be overwritten. All of the review history will be there, and the most recent change to each card (which should be the reviews today) will control the state of the card.
Were any of the syncs you’ve done “one-way” syncs, where you had to choose between upload and download?
Can you say more specifically about what progress didn’t fuse? What are you seeing that you’re not expecting (or not seeing that you are expecting)? Missed-syncs are hard to cure, but once Anki reconciles the information there may be something we can do about it.
